LONG BEACH, Calif., June 4, 2019 (Newswire.com) – Belal Hamideh Law, a personal injury attorney in Long Beach, warns area drivers that the arrival of May also signals the beginning of what’s known as the “dangerous summer driving season.” This designation is based on a study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Their most recent study, covering the year of 2017, showed that May had 3,167 motor vehicle crash deaths. That accounted for 9% of the total fatalities for the entire year, which statistically tied for the highest number of the year, with June, July, September, and October. The study went on to show that weekends and nights were some of the most dangerous times. 33% of all crash deaths occurred between 3 and 9 PM, while half of all crash deaths period was on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

The deaths were not limited to highways or other roadways with high-speed limits. In fact, a majority of the speeding-related deaths were on roads where the speed limit was actually less than 55 miles per hour. The data that this analysis culled from came through the US Department of Transportations’ Fatality Analysis Reporting System, or “FARS.”

Memorial Day, Independence Day, really any day, you have to be aware and alert at all times. An accident can ruin even the most perfect summer night.
