LONG BEACH, Calif., May 7, 2019 (Newswire.com) – Belal Hamideh Law, a personal injury attorney in Long Beach, reminds drivers that new statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show how dangerous distracted driving can be. The most recent statistics, released in April of 2019, show that in 2017 alone 3,166 people died in motor vehicle accidents which involved distracted drivers.
For the purposes of the study, “distracted driving” was defined as “(an occurrence) when drivers divert their attention from the driving task to focus on some other activity (such as) cell phone use and texting.” Additionally, the study also counted distractions such as “eating, talking to other passengers, or adjusting the radio or climate controls.”
While many of these drivers were between the ages of 15 and 29, a majority were not. Those two age groups amounted to only 36 percent of all distracted drivers. That shows distracted driving is a concern for drivers of all ages.
“It’s just not worth it to text or check your phone when you’re driving. Even when you’re at a stop sign or red light, you need to be aware because you can’t be a hundred percent sure what another driver is going to do. Anything that’s on your phone can wait. With summer almost here, that’s more important than ever,” said Belal Hamideh, Belal Hamideh Law.
In addition to being an injury lawyer in Long Beach, Belal Hamideh also serves as a workers compensation attorney.
