Trauma and Beyond Psychological Center in Sherman Oaks, CA is pleased to announce the addition of  Rabbi Dr. Arielle Hanien, PsyD, SEP to their team of trauma experts. Along with providing assessments for the center’s patients, Dr. Hanien, a certified trauma professional, will facilitate spirituality groups for the Intensive Outpatient and Partial/Day Treatment Programs.

According to Rabbi Dr. Hanien, “Spirituality is often described as a feeling of connection to something beyond ourselves. This ability to connect can be deeply affected by trauma of any kind, from sexual abuse, accidents, secondary or vicarious trauma, military engagement, developmental trauma, or social and inherited trauma. Yet the feeling of belonging to a protective, connected, meaningful universe is a deep part of feeling human and safe in the world, and the capacity for that feeling is within us even when it has been disrupted by our experience. “

Rabbi Dr. Hanien comes with a depth of experience and training in treating trauma. She brings expertise in integrative somatic approaches to resolving trauma and enhancing resilience. She is Associate Clinical Director of the Lifespan Psychological Center affiliated with UCLA and served as the Spiritual Counselor and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner at a local treatment residential facility. She is Chair of the Clergy Education Committee of the International Trauma-Healing Institute, and assists the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute at all levels of Somatic Experiencing training. Interweaving the fields of interpersonal neuroscience, psychology, conflict resolution, and Jewish tradition, she supports clients in attuning to their personal healing experiences within their embodied being and within the larger subtle energy body of the collective.

She is the only Rabbi worldwide certified in both Somatic Experiencing and Integrated Somatic Psychotherapy, Dr. Rabbi Arielle Hanien earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2018 and is a doctoral fellow in the executive doctoral program in Jewish Education at the Davidson Graduate School of the Jewish Theological Seminary. She was ordained by the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies with honors in Talmud in 2006 and holds degrees in Philosophy, Sociology, and Physical Sciences, from Brandeis University.

“We are so excited about having Dr. Arielle on our team.  Her expertise in Somatic Psychology and spirituality enhances the richness of our program,” said  Dr. Lynne Friedman-Gell, Ph.D. and Co-owner of Trauma and Beyond Center.

Dr. Joanne Barron, Psy.D., co-owner agrees:  “Her expertise and training wonderfully complement our robust team of clinicians.  Spirituality is an important part of healing for many trauma survivors.”
